Section Paloise, usually just called Pau, was founded in 1902 as a multi-sports club and took up rugby union a few years later. The club has won the French championship three times, in 1928, 1946 and 1964, and lifted the European Challenge Cup in 2000. A Pro D2 title in 2015 brought it back to the top division.
